==Education==
Laouris graduated the medical school of the University of Leipzig in Germany. His studies were supported by three parallel scholarships; one by the Government of Cyprus; a second for top grades, and a third for being among the top foreign students of his school year. He was awarded a PhD in Neurophysiology with summa cum laude by the Carl Ludwig Institute of Physiology (with Peter Schwartze) a few weeks before graduating the medical school. This achievement was publicized in many district and national German and Greek Cypriot newspapers as he was the first student to be awarded a PhD before graduation<ref>[https://www.futureworlds.eu/wiki/Vitae/Yiannis_Laouris/Newspaper_coverage_of_the_Doctorate Media coverage of PhD award]</ref>. He continued his research in neurophysiology at the Georg-August University Göttingen with cyberneticists and systems physiologists Professors Hans Diedrich Henatsch and Uwe Windhorst. He was then invited by Douglas G. Stuart to join two departments at the University of Arizona, Neurophysiology (medical school) and Robotics, Prosthetics, Motor Control Group (transdisciplinary). In the US, he also completed a Master's in Systems and Industrial Engineering.

==Childhood and early life==
Son of teacher Christodoulos Laouris, he lived attended schools in various districts of Cyprus including The English School, Nicosia, the Pancyprian Gymnasium, and the Acropolis Gymnasium. He served in the Cypriot National Guard as the first Cypriot senior cryptographer in the Headquarters after the Military coup in Cyprus of the Greek military junta and the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974.

==Current and Previous Notable Posts==
Laouris was one of the Founding Members of Future Worlds Center, where he now serves as CEO and Lead Scientist. Laouris graduated the medical school of the University of Leipzig in Germany. His studies were supported by three parallel scholarships; one by the Government of Cyprus; a second for top grades, and a third for being among the top foreign students of his school year. Ο Δρ. '''Γιάννης Λαούρης''' ξεκίνησε την καριέρα του ως ερευνητής νευροφυσιολόγος με σπουδές και εμπειρίες από τις δύο Γερμανίες και την Αμερική. Σπούδασε ιατρική στο Πανεπιστήμιο της Λειψίας (1979-1985; Grade 1.5) και Μηχανολογία Συστημάτων (MSc in Systems and Industrial Engineering; GPA 4.0) στο Πανεπιστήμιο της Αριζόνας (1990-1994) των ΗΠΑ. Εργάζεται ως Γενικός Διευθυντής του Future Worlds Center, αλλά και ως ερευνητής σε δύο νεοφυείς εταιρείες τεχνολογίας, την [[GNOUS Labs Ltd.]] και την [[Ekkotek Ltd.]] Συμμετέχει σε πολλές επιτροπές της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης σε θέματα διαδικτύου (κυρίως ψηφιακών δεξιοτήτων και ασφάλειας παιδιών), ασφάλειας προσωπικών δεδομένων, κυβερνο-ασφάλειας, νευροφυσιολογίας και γνωστικών λειτουργιών, καθώς επίσης και επιστημονικές ομάδες που επικεντρώνονται σε θέματα σχεδαδιασμού μελλοντικών τεχνο-κοινωνικών συστημάτων (designing future socio-technical systems) και συνειδητοποιημένης παγκόσμιας ανάπτυξης. ==Προηγούμενες θέσεις==

Υπηρέτησε στο ΓΕΕΦ της [[Εθνική Φρουρά Κύπρου| Εθνικής Φρουράς Κύπρου]] από το 1976 μέχρι το 1978 ως ο πρώτος Κύπριος Κρυπτογράφος. Εργάστηκε στο Νοσοκομείο Λεμεσού από το καλοκαίρι του 1985 μέχρι το καλοκαίρι του 1986 ως ασκούμενος γιατρός. Συνέχισε ως post-doctoral fellow (1986-1987) και research fellow (1987-1988) στο Department of Neurosphysiology του Georg-August University Goettigen. Το Φεβρουάριο του 1988 ξεκίνησε ως Researech Associate και λίγο αργότερα ως Research Assistant Professor στο Department of Physiology, καθώς επίσης και στο Τμήμα Robotics, Prosthetics, Motor Control Group, στο University of Arizona.
